Setting New Goals!

The Pirates had another week where they played well but the other team seemed to get a few more goals than we did.  Not to worry - let's just set new GOALS for future games!  At practice we'll talk about following up after stopping and trapping and kicking the ball, and the great things we're already doing that we can improve on.  You guys are great friends, a great group, and we're glad to see you're having fun on the field.  Here are a few recent pictures:

Great Effort!

The Pirates may have been short on goals but they were full of inspiration this past week with "birthday boy" Logan scoring one goal and Aidan scoring the other!  Playing in the "A" flight is tough as many of the teams are very good, but our boys are trying their best and really working hard, often begging to go back in when on the sidelines.  Now we just need to work more on offense and defense and not all being in the same place at the same time - spreading it out and passing!  The team is clicking and really a great group of kids and Coach Roe is proud of the fundamentals they are learning and the friendships they are making as teammates.

New Season, New Players, Let's Go!

Fall 2010

With all but one player missing, the Pirates kicked off their first game of the season with a lot of good energy and two great goals scored by Aidan and Logan.  Coach Roe is really proud of each of the players for their effort in the heat of the afternoon and as the players are just getting to know each other.  Up next:  Working on spreading players around the field, keeping our goal covered on defense and working on breakaways to score!

As last season ended with all of the parents pitching in to coach and referee when Coach Roe had to suddenly leave town when I (his wife) ended up having an emergency surgery on vacation out of state, we just want to share an incredibly belated thank you to everyone who we understand actually got to know each other better by stepping up to the plate and probably doing a better job than either of us could have done!  It's been a slow, steady recovery, but we're just now getting our groove together in the Roe household after a post surgery MRSA infection, and watching the boys play together like they are good 'ole friends despite the many schools they come from with this being for some - their only common bond - it's truly inspiring. 

As an example, think about the fact that not one but two moms - Beth and Laura showed up with both halftime and after game snacks and drinks!  That's good karma to all, and we thank you both for being such great contributors.

We want to thank in advance the parents who will help referee throughout the season and help in other ways as needed.  We really could not have a better group of kids and parents coming together to inspire these boys to learn the fundamentals of soccer while having fun at the same time.

Let Gates know if you have any concerns or if you know you will be gone for a game.  Thankfully we have lots of players and everyone will get a break when needed. 

We played a tough team on our first game of the season and the Pirates should be commended for hanging in there and knowing we'll do better as each week progresses.  We welcome back Gavin who was out of town for Rosh Hashana in week two and let's go Pirates!
